(2006 - 2008) As a founding consultant and editorial & marketing strategist,
I developed and led marketing, sales, public relations, and business partnerships
for this award-winning online lifestyle publication that became profitable in 9 months. More: Defined an editorial mission to give people something clean and out of the ordinary in their in-box each week. Led creative strategy and wrote major advertising campaigns for new business clients such as Patagonia, The North Face, Air New Zealand, Virgin America, and SPOT Satellite Messenger. Led design strategy and wrote the 2008 media kit. Secured strong press coverage from radio, print, and television. Initiated and brought to life strategic business and editorial partnerships including with 7X7 magazine (print and online) and The San Francisco Theater Foundation’s outdoor film series, Film Night in the Park. Produced the annual reader survey newsletter in 2007 and 2008.

Zero Motorcycles

(2008) Neal Saiki, a renowned mountain-bike designer and former NASA engineer, developed a clean-fast-light electric dirt bike—the Zero X—that utilizes lithium-ion technology for superior performance without toxicity. And there are more innovations on the way from Neal and his company, Zero Motorcycles. I conceptualized the content template for Zero’s email newsletter and wrote the inaugural issue. More: Wrote additional content for Zero’s upcoming revamped website.

Giga Omni Media
(2007 - 2008) With a global audience of 1.75 million, Giga Omni Media (GigaOM)
is a network of sites providing leading daily online news reads for key influencers
in emerging technology. I worked with GigaOM’s team, leading the visual and written content for NewTeeVee Live, the website promoting GigaOM’s first major offline event in San Francisco. More: Produced the e-marketing platform and schedule for selling online tickets to NewTeeVee Live. Attended the sold-out NewTeeVee Live event as a public relations liaison for GigaOM. Wrote key sections of the company’s media kit and online content. Wrote high-level sponsorship packages.

Red Herring Media
(2007) Wrote and edited the content and supporting print collateral for the publication’s online Research division. More: Developed and wrote an email newsletter, FishTales, to be used as a marketing tool for the sales team.

San Francisco magazine
(April 2004 – November 2006) Award-winning San Francisco magazine has been in publication for more than thirty years and is now part of Modern Luxury Media. This highly respected publication has the scoop on everything from where to shop, eat, party, and spa— to what your broker doesn’t want you to know…. At San Francisco magazine I conceptualized, marketed, and managed more than 60 events, ranging from 25 to 3,000 guests, including the company’s two largest annual signature events, Best of the Bay Area and FallFest. More: Worked on creative and logistical fulfillments with event sponsors such as Land Rover, Wells Fargo, Grey Goose, Smart & Final, Virgin Atlantic and SAAB. Ideated unique presentation and
content for high-level event programs inserted in the print version of San Francisco magazine (example: FallFest 2006 program). Managed staff for successful execution of events and marketing projects. Wrote high-level advertising and sponsorship packages. Wrote the publication’s email newsletter—the It List and helped triple its subscriber base. Secured media promotions from local television
and radio stations at ABC, NBC, and CBS. Produced a revenue generating event partnership with Infineon Raceway through a custom publishing stream. Initiated and managed an exclusive media sponsorship for the San Francisco premier of Lucasfilm's Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and the after-party. Initiated and sustained business relationships with a variety of clients, advertisers, and sponsors (*see INDEX OF BRAND PARTNERSHIPS).

The Learning Annex San Francisco
(July 2001 – April 2004) The Learning Annex is a premier producer of seminars, lectures, classes and workshops throughout the United States and Canada, with lectures given by such speakers as Donald Trump. At The Learning Annex in San Francisco, I prospected, booked, and managed one of the highest revenue-generating events ($250,000+) in Learning Annex/San Francisco history, featuring one of Oprah Winfrey’s favorite writers, Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now. More: Booked and promoted author Alice Walker for a sold-out reading, book signing, and Q&A session. Booked innovators such as Craig Newmark and Chip Conley for seminars and special events. Managed events team for the successful execution of more than 150 seminars and events per month.

salon.com

Salon.com
(August 1999 – December 2000) Salon.com is an award-winning online news and opinion magazine lauded for its irreverence, candor, hard-hitting political and investigative journalism and outstanding writing and analyses. At Salon.com, I conceptualized, marketed, and managed major media events in partnership with clients and sponsors such as Lexus and Miramax, including signature events such as 2000’s Brilliant Careers: From Degas to Dotcom, featuring Tracy Ullman, Roger Ebert, Stan Lee, Mike Figgis, and Ben Stein. Managed and promoted the company's first event in Washington, DC: ‘Salon by Salon’ on Capitol Hill, with honorary participants Arianna Huffington, Joe Conason, David Horowitz and NPR host, Michael Feldman. (Attendance goal for this event was 150 people and more than 600 people came.) More: Pitched and successfully placed Salon.com’s luminaries, including founder David Talbot, as keynote speakers at high profile national conferences such as South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas.
